So I managed to squeeze in some hobby time today. Thought my Emperor’s Children could use some much needed support in the form of a Reaver Titan from Legio Fureans (Tiger Eyes).

Lacertus Rex, King Lizard, is a combat-focused reaver with a giant power fist for crushing his enemies up close. His command cockpit has been modified with a snapping jaw, giving him his name. Backed up with a plasma cannon and a turbo laser-destructor mounted on his carapace he can also deal with infantry and vehicles.

Bring forth destruction the false Emperor!

What a year it has been! I started the year with 2 defined resolutions in mind and the mindset to accomplish both. It seemed like 2 simple tasks. I had 365 days to complete them. And what happens? Life! Once again life takes the front seat while hobby time becomes the backseat passenger. And I wouldn’t have changed it for the world.

I got married in September so July-October was out for me but even with that I still managed to run 2 large Malifaux tournaments, organise sponsorship and prizes (even if the trophy was slightly late)

Let’s take a look back and see the challenges I set myself:

  1. Play 1 game of every system I own.
  2. Paint 365 points of models for skirmish games.

1. Game Systems

To be fair I kinda left this one a little too late. I managed to play Malifaux, Bushido, Secrets of the Third Reich, Warmachine & Hordes, Guildball and Flames of War. That’s 6 out of 8, 75%. Not bad and considering heading into December I had organised to play 2 games of Dystopian Wars and 2 weeks in a row there was terrible traffic jams caused by road accidents. Dystopian Wars and Epic are definitely on the cards for January so even if I am a month late I would still consider this a successful year of gaming.

2. Skirmish Painting

I have yet to tally up the exact amount of models painted but regardless I managed to attend every tournament I took part in with a fully painted and varied selection of models, some of which only arrived on my desk 2 weeks before said tournament. I would consider this a success too.

So finally the year draws to close but I have already some ideas in mind for next year. As mentioned previously Epic will be big in our community so I am planning a couple of armies for that. Like all recent Die Hard films there is a tagline for next year.

#ProjectBrown The beginnings

So eventually it happens to all of us. We fall off the wagon. It all starts with good intentions. In this case I would only play 1 faction. Then I need a second to demo to other people and spread the love of Malifaux. So Ressers gave way to Guild Hunters. And so it stayed increasing model counts for both factions. And then Storm of Shadows hit and my love of Mei Feng flared.

Mei Feng in case you don’t know is a Dual Faction Master. What does this mean? Well, it doubles my playable Factions! #M2E came along and with it new artwork and something just whispered in my ear…Neverborn! Lilith had new plastics, the Nephilim got a much needed facelift and I had somehow already picked up a Zoraida and Misaki who in between editions went from Mercenary to Master of the Ten Thunders and another Dual Faction Master.

So this brings my playable faction count up to 6 which leaves 1 faction out. Some argue that they are not a real faction at all but with #M2E the Gremlins have somehow split and formed a faction by themselves. The Bayou is their home.

Along with other models in the Malifaux range the Gremlins have gotten an update to their look with the new plastics while still maintaining their aesthetic. And this is where #ProjectBrown comes in.

So far we have Somer Teeth Jones, the Bayou Boss, 2 warpigs and a rooster rider along with 2 skeeters, Lenny, 4 gremlins and 2 slop haulers. Along with Somer, Zoraida has become Dual Faction and has taken her place as the Mistress of the Swamps. Which ties in with her swamp fiends, the Silurids, the Waldgesists and Bad Juju all of which were in my Neverborn collection.

So what does this all mean? Well any given day I can play any of the 7 factions with at least 2 masters for each faction. Oh dear. I think I need help.

Tomorrow sees the second annual International Tabletop Day. We will be at our local club, Dragonslayers at Queens University. Our plan is run some demo games of Guildball and Malifaux before getting into a meaty game of Arkham Horror.

Check back throughout tomorrow for updates.

So the latest episode of the D6Generation (ep 142) has Mack Martin on as the guest 3rd chair. Here Mack talks Malifaux, general gaming and Wyrd’s next big thing.

For those unaware Mack is a heavy hitter in the RPG development industry with Warhammer 40K RPG and Dust Tactics tabletop game credited to him. He later joined Wyrd and began the Through the Breach (TTB) roleplay game set in the Wyrd universe and helped out with the development of Malifaux 2.0 (M2E).

He dropped the bombshell that he is starting work on an army-scale wargame called Ruined Planet. What is an army-scale wargame? According to Mack it will be between 30-40 up to 150 models per side. He has stated that Malifaux will not be an army game.

  • Hard Sci-Fi game
  • Rulebook and 2 faction books done
  • 1st draft written over Xmas break 2013
  • Eric had the concepts in place and Mack is filling in the gaps
  • Background includes pandemic on earth forcing people to flee to space
  • Potential for 6/7 factions and sketches for them for launch
  • Mack has had this idea for years and can be seen in past interviews on the white board behind him
  • Pandemic background seems very filled out. Very bio-organic
  • Challenges for upping model count. Wyrd very committed to the project.
  • Dice based game, not cards
  • Battle Builder from Dust Warfare will influence the new game
  • Organised play is a big feature
  • Players can influence the storyline by winning organised play events
  • Alternate Activation
  • Response tokens to help act out of turn
  • Self-balancing mechanic similar to Bushido
  • Units can resupply themselves
  • LOS not true LOS but is abstracted
  • Very scenario-specific

It sounds a lot of fun but as a gamer that loves skirmish level games I can’t see me buying into it. If the models look nice I may consider a model or two. But best of luck for Mack and the guys at Wyrd.

Well, all the cool kids are doing it

So, I have had enough of building my own websites to run blogs and trying to update a plethora of WordPress sites for dedicated gaming channels so I will try and keep everything here.

Mostly it will be Malifaux-centric, beacause, let’s face it, I’m a Henchman for Wyrd, and the game is fantastic. With a new shiny edition, new stat cards, abilities for the first wave of models and the Public Beta of Wave 2 now up and running, what’s not to get excited about?

We do play other games however, both board and tabletop. My Bushido has just shipped from Wayland Games after only 36 days. Not hours. Days. Sure, they have stock issues but it was left to me to get in touch with them. The stock indication level was green so I assumed it was in stock. But this is not a rant, right? No hate.

Add into the mix various other systems, of particular love to me is Epic:Armageddon and Dystopian Wars. And maybe a little Warmahordes thrown in for kicks.

So, hopefully this will be a regularly updated blog about our endeavours in my local gaming group with some input from the other guys. For now, see you on the flip side.
